This has become our go-to Chinese take-out place after trying many places around GR. We've been happy with all the dishes we've tried. It's convenient, delicious, fast...wish it was slightly more affordable but all in all, we highly recommend.

The crab rangoons here are amazing! The lunch specials make my day since I work in this area and can get a whole takeout box (that comes with two crab rangoons and rice) for $5 and some change. Definitely worth a stop by if you're on the go and want a quick and yummy meal! I wouldn't say that this place is the best Chinese place ever, but it's definitely good. It's a hit or miss with the chicken for me. It can have a strange texture at times and I'm not quite sure why. If you do decide to go around lunch make sure you call ahead or have time to spare, because it gets busy and you'll have to wait about 15 minutes to get your meal.

You know, for a little strip mall take-out Chinese place this was all right for my first visit last night as I was feeling like Chinese but didn't want to do a full sitdown experience at one of the other places. For me, the three stars means this place was doing what it intends to do - - hot food with good flavor at an appropriate price. Nothing fancy it's a takeout joint with a few tables but not really someplace you'd want to do more than a quick lunch at as the ambience is a fast food equivalent. This place is located in the strip mall right behind culvers on beltline across from the tire place and woodland mall. In terms of food we had orange chicken, chicken lo mein and a chicken with vegetable dish and they threw in crab Rangoon's and eggrolls for us. I also got the egg drop soup. Total was $29. Soup was fine, all the dishes were hot and relatively flavorful and surprisingly not overly salty. Eggrolls were pretty respectable. I wouldn't go out of my way to get to this place but when I want quick inexpensive Chinese it'll be on the list.

I'd actually give this place a 2.5 it's okay but nothing special. I personally LOVE egg rolls and theirs just don't hit the spot. Everyone keeps saying the ragoons are great but again just okay. The Lo mein is pretty good. I can leave the garlic shrimp... The fried rice has no veggies in it. But at least it's not that yellow crap some places try to pass as fried rice. Anyway the lunch special is a great deal and is what keeps us coming back.

This place was so much better under previous ownership. The egg rolls and prices are good. For me, I'll keep stopping here for the vegetable fried rice but the orange chicken isn't what it used to be.

Yes! Finally found my go-to place for Chinese takeout! I have to admit I'm an appetizer girl and I crave Crab Rangoon like it's nobody's business. Finally found a place in Grand Rapids that knows how to make it! Came in last night and everyone was super friendly. Again - just ordered apps, but the crab rangoon was DELICIOUS, egg rolls were great and also ordered the steamed dumplings. Scanned the rest of the menu and has great pricing. Will definitely be back to try the entrees!

Regardless how good the food may or may not be, when the cook blow his nose and play with the servers hair over a bucket of rice and then return to cooking without.washing their hands, thana a deal breaker for me

Under "new" ownership for the past year or so, the menu is the same but the food is not nearly as good before. Sadly, we no longer get takeout here.

After moving around between a lot of different states I have to say this is one of my favorite Chinese places. I have tried several items and have enjoyed all of them. And yes the egg rolls are great. Will certainly go out of my way to go here.

Finally a Chinese place in Grand Rapids that is worth going to. My family ordered three different items and all fantastic. The bang bang chicken is great and the lo mein is the best I've had in a long time. We live 2 minutes from 3 other Chinese places but we will drive out of the way for this.

Best take out Chinese in Grand Rapids. Everything made to order using fresh ingredients while infusing a passion for each dish. I also commend the new owners who were family to the previous owners for keeping an authentic and flawless transition. The black pepper chicken is a personal fave but everything is brilliantly prepared. Possibly the best egg rolls I've ever had.

Great food and great lady at the checkout counter. Call in advance to obtain food quickly.

The food is delicious for the price, but the customer service is questionable. Special requests are literally frowned upon. Despite the poor treatment, I would revisit!

Great food, good portions, and their take-out plastic-ware is so high quality, you could practically reuse it!

Just ordered take out from Tea Garden. I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a few basics to try: crab rangoon good but the filling was a little thin; egg roll was large and had a good simple flavor; kung fu chicken was fried and sweet with a little heat.....could be a little hotter but the flavor was good. Our kids love the ultimate boring chinese food which is sweet and sour chicken. The portion was huge and kids were pleased by TOTAL lack of vegetables.....not for me, but a total hit for the kids. Mushu pork, filling was good but the pancakes were dried and cracked. Free orange chicken came with the order (this was a 3rd fried chicken dish, a little too much batter and fried for me, but it was a good flavor). Finally, the kicker for me was that after I got home and we ate, they called us up (I assume they got the caller ID from the order) and asked how the food was! Portions, flavor, etc. I gave them my feedback above and they thanked me for it and promised that the pancakes would be fresher next time. I really respect a restaurant that calls to check to see if you enjoyed their food. We will patronize them again and see how well they respond to the feedback. The location is not convenient to foot traffic being in the same complex off beltline that houses Culver's. I hope they can overcome it, continue to improve and became a staple of the area.

We eat here about 3 times a month. Excellent food, great price. The owners are very friendly and willing to help you figure out what you want if you're not sure. They are even willing to make things spicier if you would like it that way.

Since it opened, tea garden became my number one take out place in GR. I've never had a bad meal or experience. Super fresh food with delightful people serving. Their crab Rangoon and egg rolls are awesome. The lunch portions are large and come with Rangoon are only $5. Great, great, great place!

Friendly service. Good food. Great prices. This is easily the best Chinese take-out in the city.

This is simply the best Chinese take out in Grand Rapids. I used to live a quarter mile away and tea garden became my comfort food. Try the bang bang chicken - delightful

I'm a regular traveler to Grand Rapids for business. I've sampled a few of the Chinese take-outs in the area, and this is my favorite. As with most Chinese take-outs, this is a very Americanized version, but there's nothing wrong with that. I'm guessing this is a family run place, as I always see the same handful of employees there, and sometimes their children too. They have gotten to know me and my regular dishes, so I don't even have to tell them my order when I walk in. One of these days, I will try something new and surprise them! They have all of the typical Chinese dishes. The servings are a good size for the money. Everything is packaged in high quality plasticware. They do have tables to dine inside if you wish. I've never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes for my order. This is a great little cozy spot and will continue to frequent.

We walked in ad were greeted very prompt and politely. She asked what we liked and made a suggestion of the spicy Kung Fu Chicken. A coworker got that and liked it, but wishes it was a tad spicier. I got the Bang Bang Chicken. There are no descriptions in the menu of what anything is, so all I had to go on was a picture and that it was spicy. Our meals came out STEAMING hot, which was nice. My chicken had a touch of sweet to it, which I didn't enjoy, but overall it was tasty. I wish they had some sort of description to have told me that, but I'll go back and try something else.

The food was good but the person taking my order on the phone was very rushed and very rude! Of course I come for the food but if there's bad service, I will NOT return whatsoever! I'm just hoping it was a bad night for her and she has a better day tomorrow. But to me, a good restaurant should be balanced in both (good to awesome) customer service, and (good to scrumptious) food.

This is a favorite Chinese takeout for me! They prepare all the food fresh and quickly at lunch time and in the evening. I would say the food is Americanized, but none the less great! I am a huge fan of the crab ragoons and the egg rolls. My husband must get the bourbon chicken as they are the only one we have found in town that makes it fresh. They always get my order right (I add and substitute vegetable often) and they offer free crab ragoons with minimum orders paid in cash. The owners are great and always friendly and remember their customers. Highly suggested!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
